Mobile Magazine Rack

Identical assemblies in this project make it a quick build, but the unique joinery will keep you challenged to the finish.

This magazine rack is packed with techniques. It starts with two frame and panel ends that hold a bottom tray and two slanted sides. The handle cutouts on the end frames follow the curves of the upper rails. And casters on the bottom let you move it around to keep your reading material within arms reach anywhere in the room. Building the slatted sides and bottom is made easy with a simple technique that doesn’t require making any mortises. And by using a piano hinge to join the sides, there’s no tricky alignment problems during assembly. Finally, you’ll find a template for cutting the top rail for the end panels so you won’t have to fuss with laying out the curves. With all this help, you’ll have the rack finished in no time.
