Snack Tray Cabinet

How about two, great woodworking challenges in one small package?

This project holds a pleasant surprise — literally. On the surface, you see a small, attractive chest of drawers. The narrow profile of the drawers and classic details are reminiscent of an old-fashioned spool chest. But in function, the chest is not what it appears to be. Open the top drawer and you’ll find nothing unexpected — just handy storage for coasters, the TV remote, or maybe a deck of cards. Pull out any of the four lower drawers, and you find something very different. When removed from the case, these “drawers” fold out into compact, snack trays — just the right size for your morning coffee and muffin.
