Lathe Stand

The mass built into this stand helps your lathe run vibration-free. You can customize the drawers to meet your needs and add an optional swing-out rack to keep your turning tools close while you work.

One problem with benchtop lathes is that they don't have the weight that full sizes lathes possess which can lead to a lot of vibration if they aren't mounted to a rigid, heavy-duty stand like they one we've designed. To add heft to our stand we built it out lumber and particleboard (MDF would work, as well) and incorporated a hollow beam that you can fill with sand for even more ballast to dampen vibrations. But all that weight can be a mixed blessing when it comes time to move your lathe around the shop. To solve that problem, we bolted the stand together so it easily knocks down when necessary. While we were at it, we added a pair of drawers with full-extension slides to store lathe accessories. We also designed an optional pivoting tool rack that positions your lathe tools within easy reach while you’re turning.
