Knockdown Bookcase

Knockdown furniture was the original flat-pack.

In the early 1900s, mail order purchasing was just starting to gain popularity. Furniture was usually too big to be sold through the mail, so manufacturers came up with the idea of making “knockdown” pieces that could be shipped flat and assembled on site. Here is a slant-sided bookcase inspired by knockdown Arts and Crafts pieces from the early days of mail order furniture.
