Compact Desk

Simple plywood construction makes this desk solid. Plastic laminate gives it style.

It seems that some of the best projects are the simplest to build. And that’s the case with this small desk. It’s about as clean and straightforward as possible. Part of what makes it so easy to build is the materials I used. Most of the desk is made from Baltic birch plywood. Unlike typical plywood, Baltic birch is made of many, thin layers that create a solid, void-free edge. Then for a dramatic touch, I covered most of the exposed plywood panels with plastic laminate. Besides adding color, the laminate is easy to clean and will stand up to years of use without a scratch.
